Throughout the development of Ghost of Yōtei, I had the opportunity to work on several structures, one of which was the Tent Set. These tents are used globally and come in four different skin variations: a plain version (not shown), Matsumae, Saito, and Oni. Each tent was built from a modular kit I created, starting from a greybox provided by the Layout Rigging Team. I used Maya for the base geometry and Marvelous Designer to simulate the base cloth. The materials were assembled in Maya using textures from our library, created by the talented Props and Character teams.
These tents required a specific rigging setup so they could be easily swapped between different layouts and skins in-engine. This was a great learning experience for me, and I received a ton of help from Peter Johnson on the Layout Rigging Team. Finally, I ran a cloth simulation pass to ensure they reacted properly to the engine’s wind system.
